The last Swine flu vaccine caused some neurologic complications. Have steps been taken to mitigate this?
One of the potential adverse effects of the flu vaccines is the manifestation of a serious neurologic condition called Guillain - Barre's syndrome. It is unclear how the vaccine causes this rare condition. Public Health officials weigh the risk and benefits of the various recommended measures before implementing such measures, i.e., Swine flu vaccine. Unlike the previous outbreak in 1976 where only several individuals experienced Swine flu, this current outbreak has already sickened over a million Americans. The Swine flu vaccine is produced under the same process as the seasonal flu vaccine and therefore, the chance of GB is likely to be the same.
